Third Grade
Third grade is about exploring creativity and caring for our community. In third grade there is a major focus on service learning and giving back to the community. Third grade students and teachers work together to create a healthy learning environment, and to create a positive community in our classrooms. Some highlights of third include:
- Invention Convention- Students become inventors when they design and construct their own inventions to help solve a problem.
- Greek Mythology– An in-depth thematic unit integrating language arts, social studies, and science. Students get to learn about, create, and become characters throughout this unit.
- Native Americans– A cross-curricular thematic unit that gets students to: learn about different tribes across the U.S.A. and Canada; create a traditional Native American village; and create PowerPoint presentations about Native American tribes.
- Math – Third grade is a challenging year for mathematics with the two biggest concepts being multiplication and long division beyond basic math facts.
- Serving our Community – Over the years, the third grade students have supported and developed a close relationship with a boys’ home by raising money and donating items to them.
