6th Casa Hogar Infantil Semilla de Esperanza
Our 6th graders have been working with children at the Casa Hogar Semilla de Esperanza orphanage in Tesistán. These children have parents who are unable to take care of them, but because they have parents, they cannot be adopted. Our students have worked hard throughout the year running various fundraisers such as bake sales and a skate-athon to raise money for the orphanage. By donating their time and effort, our students have been able to purchase things like a washer and dryer, new playground equipment, and are working on raising money for a new soccer field for the orphanage. In addition to raising money, the students have donated things like clothes, shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, much needed necessities, to their Hogar friends. Although the 6th grade students work hard to raise money for the orphanage, the main focus of our service learning is on encouraging our students to interact with and form relationships with the orphanage children. Our students organize and throw two parties for the Hogar kids each year. The first is a traditional holiday posada and the second is an end of the year pool party. These are both fun events that are planned and run by our students, and allow both the ASFG and the Hogar children to relax, have fun, and enjoy each other’s friendship.
